| Q: What does Exide Technologies do at the Frisco facility? |
| A: Exide Technologies Transportation Division manufactures electrical storage batteries for the automotive industry; both the original equipment (new cars & trucks) and aftermarket/replacement batteries. The Frisco facility is a key part of the transportation business unit, in that it recycles the spent batteries that are collected at the time new batteries are delivered to the gas service stations, discount and automotive parts stores. The spent batteries along with battery plant scrap and other compatible materials make up the feed stream for the recycling plants like Frisco. From those materials pure lead and lead alloys are produced along with lead oxide (litharge the active ingredient in a battery). These products are transferred to battery manufacturing facilities to produce new batteries. This integrated recycling loop is known as "Total Battery Management". |
